I was browsing YouTube when I saw an old clip of Elissa dancing tango on a talk show. I think it dates back to 2002. As far as I remember, the show was called (Ya Omri يا عمري) and the presenters were really cute and fun.

When I first saw it, the first thought that came to my mind was: “Wow, that is such a Haifa outfit!”

I do not like Haifa, but …

I like Elissa, she is one of my favorite singers. I think she has a good voice and she enjoys singing. She performs passionately and it shows. She is now considered one of the most classy artists. However, Elissa has come a long way. Looking at her then in that hideous outfit, and looking at her now dressing gracefully, I have to give it to her. Image is important. And in 2008, you are what you are wearing. Today, unlike Haifa, Elissa would NEVER wear such a tacky (Or Insert R-rated word) outfit. I mean look at her bare belly button and the skirt that uncovers her upper thighs. Now, Elissa would show some cleavage but her  tummy is always tucked in and her skirts are all conservative that do not show anything above the knees. She would NEVER wear too much makeup, and she would NEVER let men drool all over her while gathering around her feet like shameless puppies. Elissa has changed a lot because she learned a lot. After all, life is nothing but a mixture of experiences. Elissa almost forces people who are around her to respect her, and well, I know I do.

I forgive Elissa for wearing that outfit only because every newbie gets to make an honest mistake and not be judged upon it Just like Ragheb Alameh now would never switch between Lebanese and Egyptian dialects in one song. Ahhh, the days when they were innocent and when music was not yet rotten … 

For people who think it is all about the looks; it is not. Elissa is known for her charisma. Even though she has always been releasing one album every two years, it is not a losing situation for her because people keep listening to her old songs until she relases new ones. She simply is successful, and I do not believe that anyone can maintain success. Anyone can reach it, and the examples are plenty, (Ruby?), but only the smart consider longevity in a career - regardless of what type of career it is, and only the talented keep it up.

Guys are jerks, seriously!

Okay, I know I should not be generalizing. Yet I do think that most guys would flirt and cheat and lie about it … etc if they had a chance to do so. It is the irresistable curse, and they do it regardless of the consequences.

Today as I arrived to my first lecture, I was almost falling asleep while waiting for the professor to arrive. Two girls were sitting right behind me and I could hear everything they said; I mean they were talking right into my ear. You would think they would keep it down especially that the topic of conversation was private, but I guess they did not care. Both girls are married, and while one seems to be getting along with her husband, the other seems to be in trouble. Apparently, her husband has been cheating on her.

The girl is young, young as in her early twenties. Her husband is 25. They have been together for a long time, and they only got married recently. Still, he has been cheating on her for over a year. Apparently, she was left in the dark and he was not planning on telling her anytime soon –if at all. One day, the wife was driving the husband’s car and the husband was driving the wife’s car. The mistress -who works close to the couple’s place- was leaving work when she saw the husband’s car parked outside. She thought he was home alone and actually went up there. When the wife opened the door, she immediately knew what was going on as she already had doubts due to her husband’s behavior.

So the wife asked the mistress to stay and called her husband to come home as soon as possible. The mistress admitted they were having sexual relationships. It started when the couple was engaged, stopped for sometime after they got married, but continued later on because the jerk, sorry I mean the husband, could not resist texting and calling other women. It turns out he would flirt around and get back home with a bunch of girls numbers in his pockets. The husband tried to deny the accusations and claimed that the mistress is trying to ruin his life because she is in love with him and he married someone else. The mistress showed the wife the texts and phone calls, so he had to shut up. In one of the text messages, he had said that he married the wrong person. How humiliating and pathetic.

Eventually, he blamed it all on her and told her that it is her fault for having insecurities about her body. By the way, the girl has a nice, fit body. He probably has a beer belly. He also told her that being mad at him is forbidden because it ‘upsets’ him, so she basically has to put a show. Anyway, she told his parents and they believed him over her. She has no family here, and she decided to put up with it until she graduates and gets a job to support herself.

I feel sorry for the girl, she is young and she already is going to get a divorce?

What to take away from today’s story: If you guys ever decide to cheat, choose a smarter girl who would not go straight up to your place.

On a more serious note; true love is hard to find, learn to appreciate what you have because otherwise, no one will appreciate you. What goes around, comes around.

The following post is just something that I need to get off my chest.

I started having this ‘really’ bad dream a long time ago, and it just does not seem to go away. At least not anytime soon.

Most of the time and regardless of the situation, I find myself paralyzed from the waist down when danger is close. When I move it happens in slow motion. I just get scared and wake up feeling annoyed to the point where I am unable to go back to sleep. I just wonder if it will ever go away, I am bored with it. Enough already.

(Phew)

Alright so I saw the idea spread all over the blogosphere and decided to do it myself. (Who started it by the way? I swear I was going to start something similar!)

1. I cried a whole lot when I was a baby, enough to last me a lifetime. I do not really remember crying too much, but I have been told my mom was tempted to give me away
2. When I go to bed, I sleep through the night and wake up in one position. I turn right and left a few times, but I am such a quiet sleeper in general … Unlike my sister who wakes up on the floor.
3. I do not take medicine, and I am a healthy person (Thank God). When I have a headache I just go to bed and wake up feeling better than ever. Damn I love sleeping
4. I cannot resist ice cream, I mean I will eat it anytime anywhere regardless of the consequences.
5. I do not swim. (When I read it at Maher’s I decided to add it myself) When I was in grade two, I drowned and swallowed a lot of water. When the coach jumped after me, all I could see is hazy figures and it just stuck in my mind
6. I love wind and rain and snow and anything that has to do with Winter.
7. I just found out that 60 episodes of Maruko are uploaded on YouTube, so I have been watching passionately for the past month
8.  I am extremely stubborn, and most of the time I do not admit my mistakes. (Fine all of the time, get over it.)
9. I believe I am Superwoman, and if I put something in mind then I definitely have to get it even if I struggle and suffer and go through hell for it to happen. Simple example; if I have an exam I would start studying one day earlier and sometimes on the morning of the exam day. I would take it and get an A
10. My train of thought stops here, so if anyone is up for it, feel free to add anything you discovered about me through my blog.

Well, my answer is short and simple; it was a way for me to share my thoughts and ideas with random people, which in an of itself is exciting. It breaks the daily routine of having to deal with the same faces over and over and over. I say ‘random’ because when you are interacting with people who are almost anonymous to you, you feel like you can say anything and no one would judge you. You can also be extremely honest with these people knowing  that you might never get to meet them. It gives a sense of security I guess!

In the Picture: The Business Building at UH

So everyday at University of Houston is an adventure for me. Seriously, many things/people crack me up. I would like to say that my university is one of the most diverse in the country. So it is where you get to see (And hear) a whole lot of … Diversity. Anyway, I have a few stories to share and I do not want to put them in different posts so I will just list them in one.

~ Ever since the Spring semester started, I have been seeing an unusual scene almost daily. There is this girl who walks around campus barefoot. Yes, she does. I mean I see her going from one class to another, in the computer lab, going up the stairs, getting food … All without having shoes on. I am starting to wonder, does she go to the restroom barefoot? That would be absolutely nasty!

~ The other day in my Entrepreneurship class, the professor who is 81 years old decided he wanted to spice things up. Usually, everyone sits quietly and listens to him (Not because they are good kids, but they would be sleepy). On the board, he drew a picture of a project in development, and then he called a group of people to the stage and assigned jobs to them. He started to ask them questions on how they would go about finishing the project, and they had to provide answers. There were 7 people: 6 guys and 1 girl. The girl was either a homosexual person or she did not pay much attention to her looks; she had short hair, no makeup, and an X-Large shirt and baggy pants on. She looked exactly like a guy. The professor actually thought she was a guy and addressed her as one! Suddenly, everyone seemed to be interested in what was going on, the girl felt embarrassed, and I resisted the urge to laugh. For the rest of the class, the girl was pulling her shirt tight and close to her body and womanly areas if I might say. I really felt bad for her, but you know what? Today she showed up to class wearing earrings and a tank top.

~ Sometimes after my classes are over I stay in the student lounge to catch up on my studying. A couple of days ago, I was sitting and using the laptop and feeling utterly isolated from the outer world when I heard a loud voice. I looked up and there was a man lying on the wet floor. There was a moment of silence we only experience in movies. Apparently, one worker at Starbucks (We have a Starbucks in the student lounge) had just finished wiping the floor. The man was in a hurry and somehow slipped falling on his butt. The worker ran up (Down?) to him asking if he was okay. And a student rushed to collect his belongings and see if he needed help. The man was embarrassed but tried to look fine, and he even joked about it “I’ll take it that’s wet!” When I left a short while after, I made sure to walk slowly.
